In geometry, toroid is the surface of revolution generated by a closed flat curve that goes around an axis. The toroid is said to be the only energy pattern or dynamic that can hold itself and it's made of the same substance as its surroundings; the energy flows from one end, travels around the center and exits from the other side.

TORONTOIDES is a photographic and video performance series that reflects on the body that contains us, the planet, its hemispheres, its magnetic fields and its mysteries. About the individual and collective possibilities of challenging the physical properties between the liquid and the solid, the gravity and the non-Newtonian surfaces, their possibilities of encounter and connection. It questions the scale, the space and body representation in it.

TORONTOIDES wonders how to cross the planet from the inside, how to challenge the so far known laws of gravity and matter to connect the opposite poles of the planet through an intraterrestrial channel.

This project was originally produced for Joaquin Wall's video installation "Global Steps" in the exhibition ¨Division of Labour¨ at the Art Gallery of Burlington, Toronto, Canada, curated by Suzanne Carte, in early 2020 and supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.

TORONTOIDES was born as a geo-sculpture between the cities of La Plata, Argentina, and Toronto, Canada.
